Shamcey Supsup is a magna cum laude graduate of University of the Philippines-Diliman with a degree in architecture. She also  topped the Architecture Licensure Examination in July 2010. Armed with flying colors in the academe, confidence, and Filipino values, she was able to represent our country and was determined to compete with other gorgeous ladies in this year’s Miss Universe competition.

She bagged the Third Runner-Up Place after competing with Miss China, Brazil, Ukraine and Angola in the last leg of the competition – Question and Answer portion. Though, most  Filipinos and I assume unbiased audience all over the world, think that Shamcey gave the best answer in the Q & A, not to mention the fact that she’s the only one who didn’t use an interpreter, judges decision still prevailed.

After tabulation,  their scores  favored the following:

Miss Universe – Miss Angola (Leila Lopes – first Miss Universe winner of Angola)

First Runner-Up – Miss Ukraine (Olesia Stefanko)

Second Runner-Up – Miss Brazil (Priscila Machado)

Third Runner-Up – Miss Philippines (Shamcey Supsup)

Fourth Runner-Up – Miss China (Luo Zilin)

Here’s the question of Judge Vivica A. Fox to Shamcey:

“Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person that you love? Why or why not?”

Shamcey’s answer: “If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person I love is God, who created me. I have my faith and my principles, and this is what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God, too.”

Eventhough, Shamcey wasn’t able to bring home the crown, Filipinos are still very proud of her. She was able to impart to the whole world that Filipinos are God-centered and God-fearing individuals. God is our priority above all and we give back everything to His glory. Her answer may not be that acceptable to others since religious belief is a very delicate matter to tackle but I know Filipinos are so proud that we are represented by a Filipina in that way.

Congratulations Shamcey! Congratulations to her parents who have instilled good values to her! Congratulations to the Filipino people who took time and effort to support her in every simple and single way that they can! I AM PROUD TO BE A FILIPINO!
