Protect Your Business, Protect Your Livelihood

Washington D.C. is well-known for being the capitol of the nation, but it’s also become known for its rampant crime. It’s one of the most dangerous cities/areas in America, along with New Orleans, Detroit, and St. Louis. That means that you need to take special precautions in order to protect your business. You may have been lucky so far; maybe you haven’t had your store robbed or been otherwise victimized. You can’t expect that luck to last, because you’d just be denying a statistical reality. What you can do is take measures to protect your business and financial assets, that way when you are the target of a crime, you might be able to deter it with security. You have a few different options for security: hiring security from one of the security guard companies in Washington D.C., a security system with surveillance cameras, and/or fortification.

If you decide to look into getting security guards, keep in mind your budget and expectations.  Security is important, but you don’t want it to break the bank. Keeping security guards on hand can really add up financially. Plus, there are a few different avenues you can pursue to find security guards, so shop around to find the best deal.

Security systems are usually a combination of perimeter alarms, motion alarms, CCTV (closed-circuit television) surveillance, and possibly also security personnel. You can solicit the help of a security consultant, either an independent one or one who works for the security company, to determine what measures you should install. Asking for the consultant is smart because they are uniquely experienced and can figure out which risk factors your particular type of business, location, and clientele bring. You may or may not opt to have a security company monitor the systems for you, but it’s certainly an option. Sometimes business owners choose to just buy the security equipment themselves to save on the monitoring costs.

You want to make sure that your storefront is protected from hapless criminals that wander by. If you have large shop windows, what’s stopping someone from just throwing a brick through it in order to get in? Having your business’ location fortified though, means it will be much harder for a criminal to gain entry. You can get advice on fortification from a security consultant or one of the security guard companies in Washington D.C., or from an experienced contractor. If you take the time to bolster your store, you might not have to spend as much on other security measures. Or you can be extra secure and choose a combination of any of these defenses.
