Healthy Halloween Trick or Treat Tips

Halloween is coming and Keisha is so excited!

Keisha, like most children, loves Halloween because she gets to dress up in a fun costume, she can also go out at night and knock on doors and greet people with ‘Trick or Treat’- but especially she loves Halloween because she get loaded down with many sugary treats.


However, as a health conscious mom, I opted to give out healthy snacks or nonfood items to their trick-or-treaters. So if you are looking for healthier options for your kids and neighborhood trick-or-treaters, here are my suggestions.

Dark Chocolates

Dark chocolate is actually loaded with antioxidants and beneficial nutrients. It contains a healthy dose of flavonoids known for lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.

Lowfat granola or cereal bars / Crackers

These are lower in fat and sugar but may provide vitamins, minerals and fiber.

Snack packets of dried fruit

A sweet yet sugar-free snack that tastes good and is good for your kids, too.

Small bottles of water or juice.

Kids get thirsty walking through the neighborhood. They also come in handy for school lunches.

Include some tricks instead of treats: Instead of giving out candy, why not stock up at the dollar store on some cool toys to give out on Halloween night. Other ideas include giving out coins, crayons, pencils, erasers, stickers, and tattoos.

Halloween does not have to be a night full of sugar, candy and artificially flavored products. Following some of these Healthy Halloween Trick or Treat suggestions and consuming candy in moderation will help guide you and your children through this coming holiday. Hopefully these suggestions will help you maintain a healthy balance as well as positive nutrition choices.
