With the advanced technology present today, shopping imported goods and services are easily accessible in the Philippines through different channels like online shops and local stores carrying products from different countries around the world. Thanks to the power of globalization, Filipinos are more exposed and are given more choices when it comes to purchasing goods and services. With the vast number of foreign brands to choose from, it is hard to distinguish which one is the best among the rest. There is no assurance that imported products are made of high-grade materials and can serve effectively and efficiently its purpose.
In line with this, Taiwan has organized and implemented a campaign to address this concern and help Filipino consumers make more educated purchases and choose products that will help them have an excellent lifestyle. The campaign is called TAIWAN EXCELLENCE and is organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Bureau of Foreign Trade of Taiwan (BOFT), R.O.C. Taiwan, and implemented by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
What is Taiwan Excellence?
Taiwan Excellence is a campaign that recognizes high-quality Taiwanese brands that undergo a series of strict and veracious screening process and awarded a seal of excellence to ensure Filipino consumers that the products are of superior quality and value, and best represent the unique and innovative culture of Taiwan.
This is the first time that this campaign is launched in the Philippines giving Filipinos the opportunity to discover different range of Taiwanese products with seal of quality. The 56 top quality brands will be bringing in 175 products in the Philippine market which fall under different industries such as information and communications technologies, home and living, and sports and leisure.
History of Taiwan Excellence
The Taiwan Excellence campaign started as part of the Ministry of Economic Affair’s (MOEA) 5 year plan in the 1980’s to raise Taiwan’s international competitiveness by supporting its local brands. The Taiwan Excellence Award campaign was established in 1992 under the Image Enhancement Plan.
The Process of Awarding the Taiwan Excellence Seal
All Taiwan based products are qualified to be part of the campaign. Product categories are divided into consumer and business IT, arts and culture, sports, education, fashion, transportation, and others. Rigorous screening process is made to ensure that these brands pass the parameters set to ensure that these are the best and high-quality products of Taiwan.
Each product is scored based on the following by an international panel of judges:

Each product must score evenly in all four categories and after careful and rigid evaluation, selected brands and products are allowed to use the Taiwan Excellence Seal locally and internationally.
Aside from the Taiwan Excellence Seal, judges also choose the products that deserve the Silver and Gold award recognition. They will select thirty from the original winners, with only ten to be given the Gold Award. The Gold Award is the highest recognition given under the campaign. The remaining finalists will be given the Silver Award.
